1. The four Pillars

Hey guys and welcome to my first real post. Today I'd like to talk about the "four pillars" of Welton Society, the school in Dead Poets Society.

What are the four pillars?
The four pillars are the four major values of Welton Academy, the boarding school that our characters attend. The four pillars are: Honor, tradition, discipline and exellence. They are fundamental for the school's high level. The pillars are probably comparable to guiding principles even if they are much stricter than at normal schools. At Welton Academy, the four pillars are so important that they are presented and celebrated at the beginning of every new semester.

Ok, now that you know about the pillars, I'd like to tell you what I think about them.
If I'm honest, I don't like schools like Welton that put excellence and discipline into the center of everything. Cause I believe, that life is to short for not having fun and learning things you'll never need. I like dreaming, reaching for the stars and reaching your own goals, which are important for you. I feel like Welton has another idea of success than I have. Especially. if you compare the pillars to our schools "Leitbild", as you would call it in German, which are also some kind of guiding principles. Our guiding principles are more about shaping a good environment to ensure a good education for every student as well as respect and a school without racism. Some of these principles are:

  1. We see a comprehensive education as the foundation of lifelong learning.
  2. We treat each other with respect, tolerance and trust.
  3. We want to create an open and vivid school together.
  4. Performance and effort of every single student are requirements for a democratic society.
  5. ...
As you can see, these principles have not much in common with honor, tradition, discipline and excellence perhaps except the fourth point.

To put it in a nutshell, I'd say that Welton Academy's four pillars are very strict and more like rules compared to the principles at my school.
What do you think about that?? Comment down below!!

See you next week!!

4. Dead Poets Society

Characterization Hello there, today I'm gonna give you a short characterization about Mr. John Keating. Enjoy! In the novel " Dead Poets Society ", written by N. H. Kleinbaum, John Keating is one of the main characters. He is probably about 50 years, with brown hair, a round face and blue eyes. Normally he is wearing a brown suit and a white shirt. Mr. Keating is a teacher at Welton and the English teacher of our Dead Poets Society members. His behavior is changing in every situation, sometimes he is excited, for example when he stands in a table in the classroom, or he is calm, for example when he walks around the campus while he's whistling. John Keating thinks that the boys should "seize the day" he wants them to look at life from a poetic perspective and not just learn the stuff they have to learn. He has a special connection to the boys who revived the Dead Poets Society. Mr. Keating teaches differently and that's why he is more liked and appr...
